Early Years
Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Our primary aim for your child’s time at Honey Bees is for it to be an enjoyable learning experience; they will lay down strong foundations and learn to become a happy, confident and well-balanced individual who is able to move onto the next exciting adventure in life. We provide an outstanding platform to prepare your child for life at primary school.
Every day in nursery is carefully planned to ensure your child receives the best learning opportunities in a safe, fun and caring environment whilst ensuring we meet the individual social, physical and emotional needs of each child.
The EYFS Framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy development. Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development. Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first.
These are:
These prime areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning.
As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas.
These are:

The EYFS Framework exists to support all professionals working in the EYFS to help your child and was developed with a number of early years experts and parents. In 2025 the framework was revised to make it clearer and easier to use, with more focus on the things that matter most.

This new framework also has a greater emphasis on your role in helping your child develop. This is a very ’hands on’ framework, the children’s learning is carefully planned and assessed through enjoyable and interesting activities. In the early stages great importance is placed on settling in and becoming familiar and confident with nursery routines.
Our well-planned and organised play environments offer children rich and stimulating experiences, alongside opportunities to explore, experiment, plan and make decisions for themselves. The programme of activities will be differentiated and take into account the differing ages, stages, interests, backgrounds and abilities of the children.

Wherever appropriate, your child will be involved in the process of planning activities so that the programme reflects their opinions and interests. We carefully plan activities to allow the children to build on their natural curiosity, advance their thinking, use their imagination and develop positive social relationships. Honey Bees Day Nursery will recognise a child’s individuality, effort and achievement at all times.
Your child will have an individual file that contains their assessment profile with recordings of observations made by their key person. We offer this as an online tool through our Baby’s Days App which means you can receive photos and updates on your child’s learning experience, plus our observations, to your secure account.

Examples of their work and any other relevant information will also be included. It’s a great way to communicate with us too; you can upload photos, videos and messages of your own so that together we can celebrate milestones and accomplishments.
How can I contribute to my child’s learning?
There are many things you can do to help your child develop. As parents and carers, you are the biggest influence upon their emerging characters and personalities. All the fun activities that you do with your child at home are important in supporting their learning and development and have a long-lasting effect on your child’s learning as they progress through nursery and school. We support children’s learning at home by providing home learning activities and ideas which build upon what they’ve learned in nursery.
